New Commissioner for Enlargement – Marta Kos

Marta Kos is the new Commissioner for Enlargement for the period 2024 – 2029. She drives the European Union’s enlargement process forward and develops the EU’s relations with countries in the region, including in the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova.

She is responsible for:

working with candidate and potential candidate countries on their merits-based path to join the EU, by supporting the required structural reforms, their respect for the rule of law and fundamental values, and strengthening their resilience and preparedness


leading the Commission’s continued support of Ukraine, in particular efforts on Ukraine’s reconstruction and accession


continuing exchanges with Türkiye to improve cooperation on political, economic and trade matters


coming up with a Black Sea Strategy, together with the High Representative/Vice-President


supporting the countries of the Southern Caucasus, in particular on regional connectivity
